EP.4 What is it, give it back (3)

   “Wow…”

With a loud, cooing sound, the large body of the Black Knight Dyke collapses. Dyke coughed up a handful of blood and lowered his head.

The black armor he was sporting was dented. His greatsword is broken in half and stuck on the floor. It meant Dyke’s complete defeat.

   “ah···.”

   Lepe blinked blankly.

Just one sum. All of this was the result of Raniel releasing the spell on his forearm, and it was accomplished in just one move.

Did he unleash all the spells on his forearms?

No, it wouldn’t be unfair if it were that way.

   Lepe saw clearly.

There were only three spells that Raniel cast.

   Double-Spell.

   Spell-reinforce.

   Smash.

   Three spells.

One spell enhanced by two spells.

With the first blow, Dyke’s raised sword split in half. The second blow that followed crushed the armor and made contact with Dyke’s bare skin. And, that was the end of it.

There was no need for fancy magic or tricks.

Dyke, pushed by the shock, fell against the wall and did not move after that. It is unclear whether he is even alive.

   -Gulp.

Lepe swallows dryly and slowly looks away.

Raniel is standing there. The monster, without any sign of fatigue, is looking at Lepe.

   “·····.”

   Squinted blue eyes.

Looking into those eyes, Lepe had an intuition.

There is no more place to run to.

   That you could really die.

   Plop, plod.

Lepe’s heart is pounding like crazy to the sound of footsteps lightly pounding the ground. Grinding his teeth together, Lepe tries to think of a way to get out of this situation.

   ‘marble.’

The first thing that comes to mind is ‘beads’.

An item entrusted to Lepe by Commander-in-Chief ‘Immortal Knight’.

-Put the essence you have absorbed into it.

-Don’t question what’s in it. All these vulgar bitches have to do is put energy into that bead.

Lepe also doesn’t know what’s inside the bead.

However, one thing was certain: the beads contained the energy that Lepe had collected over the years. And, for a succubus, energy means mana.

   ‘perhaps···.’

With a few decades worth of mana, wouldn’t it be enough to stop that monstrous wizard? Thinking like that, Lepe puts his hand in the air. Grab the marble hidden in the deepest place.

The dark energy that fluctuates inside the bead.

   Lepe grabs the marble.

   -Jeokjeok.

There is a crack in the bead. Lepe absorbs vital energy through the gap between the split beads. I feel my mana being filled.

   “ah?”

However, that lasts only for a moment.

   “Kyaaaaah!”

The black mist leaking from the orb engulfs Lefe.

   * * *

   ‘Black fog?’

Raniel narrowed his eyes at the sight of the black fog that had engulfed Lefe. It was a type of order I had never seen before.

‘It’s not like there isn’t magic to clear the fog…’

There was something strange about that fog.

Unlike spells that block vision or open a poisonous fog containing toxic substances, the fog moved as if it were alive.

‘I feel like I’ve seen this somewhere before…’

I couldn’t remember exactly where I saw it.

Raniel sighed and stretched his left arm forward.

“I have to do something first.”

A spell stored at the ends of the middle finger and thumb.

   Spell-Capture.

   Smite.

Raniel snaps his fingers and rubs spell after spell. Two spells are combined into one to form a double spell.

   Spell-Smite.

Gray mana spreads out from the finger that snaps with a sound. However, nothing happens. The gray mana scatters in the air without finding its target.

   Raniel frowned.

   ‘It’s not a spell?’

Meanwhile, the black fog gurgles and engulfs Lepe’s body. A black mist leaks out through the gap between her upside-down eyes and between her slightly parted lips.

   “·····.”

There is a thick black fog. The fog did not rise. Just crawling on the floor. It was like looking at an insect. Raniel chases the beginning of the fog.

At the starting point of the fog is Lepe.

Completely swallowed up by the fog, she raises her arms with a snapping sound, like a doll whose strings have been cut. She has her mist rising along her arms.

   It was a creepy sight.

“I’m really going to be amazed.”

Raniel let out a long sigh.

No matter what the situation was, it was clear that it was not a very good situation.

   “■■.”

Lefe, swallowed by the fog, mutters an unknown language. At first glance, it may seem like an incantation language, but the result is different.

   “■■-■■(■■■■-■■■■).”

“What are you talking about? Crazy bitch.”

Raniel takes his stance. I don’t know what it was, but he had a gut feeling that he shouldn’t let him memorize that spell to the end.

   ‘It’s dangerous to approach.’

If you don’t know what black fog is, it’s crazy to rush into it blindly. There is no need to approach anyway. Because he only engaged in close combat to reduce waste, Raniel was not particularly a warrior.

   Raniel stretches his arms forward.

The spells stocked on both his forearms shine.

Whatever it is, there are plenty of orders to respond to. If one doesn’t work, try ten, and if ten doesn’t work, try a hundred spells.

   ‘Spell power…’

It was just as Raniel was about to release the spell.

   “Cough.”

   Dry coughing sound.

Raniel fell to his knees, clutching his heart.

   Patter.

A handful of blood pours from the corner of his mouth. The spilled blood is dark red. Clumps of blood. At that moment, Raniel realized.

   ‘What the f*ck.’

   That black fog.

‘That crazy bitch, what are you carrying around?’

Raniel remembers what that black dance really is. It was natural that he couldn’t remember. Because that wasn’t really that type of fog.

The monster I encountered in the black fields three years ago.

This was the moment when I became completely different from Kyle.

A collection of curses, the devil king.

That black fog resembled the monster’s body. Even though the forms were different, there was a reason why Raniel was so confident.

   “Cough, clack. Hehehe…”

A curse lodged in Raniel’s heart.

Because what the Demon King left behind was reacting with that fog. My heart is tight and my eyes are bloodshot. My blood seems to be boiling.

   “Whoo, whoo….”

Raniel took a deep breath and strained his eyes.

   “■■···.”

   Lepe’s order is nearing completion.

However, Lepe’s body is also not mature. You have to try it once. Once the spell he’s reciting now is over, he won’t be able to move anymore.

   ‘once.’

You only have to block it once.

Raniel chewed the tip of his tongue and came to his senses.

   “■.”

Eventually, the completed spell spreads out through the fog from Lepe’s hand. Raniel glares at it with bloodshot eyes. He reads spells contained in mana.

   physical mutation.

   Mental pollution.

And one thing I don’t know.

Naturally, there are plenty of orders to prepare for this. There are dozens of orders in stock right now. However, the problem is that black fog.

That fog cannot be countered with normal spells.

All spells lose their light in the face of black fog.

It was something I had already experienced once.

Raniel does not waste spells needlessly.

   “Sigh, huh.”

Raniel spits out the blood that has accumulated in his mouth. Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, he stretches out his arm. And then, they slapped their palms together.

   -match.

The spells engraved on the fingertips, knuckles, and palms collide one after another. friction. Gray mana boils.

‘It’s not like I wasted three years.’

3 years ago, when I encountered the Demon King.

Raniel was denied his life. He was trampled miserably. The magic he had built up collapsed before the curse. The spells he boasted of did not leave a single blemish on the darkness enveloped by the Demon King.

It’s been three years since that defeat.

It was three years that some people would have wasted in frustration, but for Raniel, it was three years of gritting his teeth and finding answers.

   And now.

It was time to show the answer.

   Wow.

The gray mana blooming from the palms that clashed together swallows up all the stocked spells. It comes alive and moves, as if imitating her black fog.

   “An order is an order.”

Raniel smiles with a pale face.

   “A curse, a curse.”

   Cursed Mana.

Black fog and gray mana mix. The gray mana is not complete. The fog that the gray color missed seeps into Raniel’s body. However, there is more to swallow than to miss.

   Wow.

Gray greedily eats up the fog on the floor. The clumped fog is clawed away. Like a wild beast biting down on its prey, ash craves mist.

Moonlight comes in through the broken window.

Under the blue moonlight, ash bites away the darkness.

   2.

   Flash.

   “Ugh!”

As soon as I open my eyes, I feel pain as if my whole body is on fire. Lepe frowned and looked down at his body.

   The arm is broken.

   The skin is tanned black.

It was difficult even to breathe properly.

   ‘what… ‘What the hell?’

My memory wasn’t perfect. I even remember breaking the orb containing energy. However, I had no memory of what happened after that.

   “Huh, huh!”

At the sound of someone’s voice, Lefe turns his head.

There, Dyke, the black knight, is curled up and shaking, wondering when he came to his senses.

“What is it, Dyke? “Are you safe?”

   “Hee hee!”

It didn’t seem like he was safe.

He is looking at something with his eyes as if he is looking at a monster. Lepe turns his head to follow that gaze.

   “·····.”

   And then, Lepe gasped.

Something gray is glaring at Lepe. It is something that cannot be described, something that can only be described with the word ‘something’.

It moves along with Lepe’s movements.

Lepe belatedly looked inside the building. It looks as if a huge animal has scratched its way past. It was acceptable that it didn’t collapse.

   Gulp.

Lepe swallows dry saliva and searches for the man who created this tragedy. She was soon able to spot the man’s figure.

A pale face with no blood left.

   Robes soaked in blood.

Lepe blinked at the sight of Raniel leaning against the wall, looking as if he could die right away.

   ‘···What on earth is this?’

   I couldn’t figure it out.

   ‘dead… I don’t think that’s the case.’

Even so, I am worried about the gray color blocking the path. I feel uncomfortable, like I shouldn’t get close.

   “Dike.”

   “Hee hee!”

“Stop the damn thing and wake up. Take this opportunity to run away.”

Gray only glares at Lepe, but does not chase Lepe. Lepe woke up his dyke and jumped on his back.

   ‘I don’t know what it is…’

Lepe felt like he shouldn’t be there anymore.
